Born in an orthodox family, 13 years old Vishal seems to be more mature than his age. He hardly smiles, but his motivation is higher to dream big. His idol is Mr. Sunil Chhetri, greatest Indian footballer of all time and leading international goal scorer for India. When he grows he wants to be like him and follow his footsteps.

Vishal lives in one room jhuggi with 7 family members –  his father, mother, 3 younger siblings and one uncle. His father makes out a living as a tailor and his mother is a housewife.

Vishal and his 12 years’ younger sister Jhanvi who studies in Class 5 along with him were both facing visual problems, which were noticed by their Class teacher. She asked them to get an eye checkup done as both of them were unable to read clearly the words written on the blackboard. This was affecting their studies and their communication with their teachers and class-mates.

They were taken to a private hospital in Noida where both Vishal and Jhanvi were diagnosed to have cataract in both their eyes. Their father was unable to afford the treatment as it amounted to a huge amount towards the cataract surgeries. Soon after he and his younger sister were referred to ICARE Eye Hospital by one of the social workers, an ex-naval officer’s wife. On complete eye examination and investigation, at this hospital, they were diagnosed with congenital cataract in both eyes. Considering their family financial status they were assured free eye treatment.

Considering their age, we provided them with special lenses to help maintain healthy vision throughout their lives. After successful cataract surgeries in both eyes, Jhanvi and Vishal can now read clearly from the blackboard. We wish them all the very best for their future.
